 What's New in Piedmont

I am a movie fan. I love going to the movies more than almost anything. I love everything about the experience except for the cost and potentially having to sit next to a blabbermouth or crying child. Otherwise it is my haven. I can disappear for a couple of hours and be absolutely transported. I am so mesmerized I don’t even think about the potential germ quotient when I lean my head against the headrest of the theater chair. My truest test of a good film is if I check my watch during it or not. There are exceptions to this rule: Inglorious Basterds is a brilliant film, maybe Tarantinos best so far but it is too freaking long!
First movie I can remember going to alone was a matinee of the animated “101 Dalmations” and “The Computer wore Tennis Shoes” with Kurt Russell. My uncle took me to see “The Godfather” for my 12th birthday because it was rated R and my mom refused. Last New Years Eve I finally had the chance to see “Beneath the Planet of the Apes” from start to finish. I actually saw part of the movie as a first run feature except every few minutes my mom covered my eyes to keep the scary, bald, post nuclear disaster people living underground away from my overly vivid imagination. Drive-ins were big back in my youngster days. We would wear our pajamas and bring food and eat our way thru 3 movies and get home really late. I think my Hub and I are going to revisit the drive in thing for this months date night.
This was also pre-movie channel days. No one I knew had cable and relied on the networks for our old movie fix. It seemed like it took years for a new movie to reach the small screen. Not that screens are small anymore...
Thankfully these days we have TMC and AMC to keep the old standards alive. Love or hate Ted Turner, his collection of classics, shown uncut are a treasure!
