Creating a Shared Vision for Piedmont

Oklahoma Community InstituteRecently, the City of Piedmont contracted Oklahoma Community Institute (OCI) to assist our community in creating a vision for our future. We eventually coined this initiative the "Planning Piedmont's Progress" initiative (or "P3" initiative for short).  Over 100 volunteers turned out to take part in this effort.  The initial planning sessions span over several weeks and was a resounding success.  Since that time in summer 2007, many of those volunteers stayed on to form committees and carry out the implementation of plans to achieve the visions established for Piedmont.  You can visit the "P3" website to learn more by going to http://piedmont-p3.com.  You can also learn more about each committee and the good work they are doing for Piedmont by visiting the links on the left.

Visions for Piedmont's Future

Beautification: Piedmont incorporates a well-defined, unique gateway to our city limits. Planning and parks have worked together and within modified codes to set aside land for our city, which has created visually attractive common areas, landscaped city parks, and open spaces. We are a model community for our beautification programs.

Business Development: Piedmont has a planned business district with high quality, attractive, and cohesive properties, which attracts and actively recruits new businesses and provides economic growth and development. Piedmont encourages continued growth of our tax base, which benefits our infrastructure and schools.

Community Activities and Recreation: Piedmont has a vibrant community and cultural center that hosts diverse activities and cultural events for all citizens. Piedmont’s Community Center has a great auditorium and a community water park that is fun for all ages. The community center hosts sporting events, cultural events, training and educational learning events, and many community celebrations. We have numerous recreational opportunities that include recreational trails and facilities that allow us to maintain our quality of life expectations.

Community / Citizen Collaboration: Piedmont citizens are actively involved in volunteerism and take great pride and ownership in the community. There is a central location with postings of volunteerism opportunities. Our civic and charitable participation continues to grow. The needs of our community are met through open communication between city government and the citizens of Piedmont. Our progress is defined by a shared vision and collaborative effort of our city leadership and residents. We embrace change because we enable change.

Downtown Development: More than just a place to visit and then leave, people are drawn to our historic downtown as a place to meet family and friends. A place with a “Town Square” feel, it has been uniquely restored and developed to preserve the past and embrace our future. You can stroll the pedestrian mall with brick sidewalks lined with gas lamps and enjoy fresh ice cream from the creamery while browsing the vintage shops. Enjoy delicious dining before going to the Old Town Community Theater where local talent performs. With its old town charm and charisma, look closely to see the difference between the old and the new.

Growth: Piedmont is a community experiencing well-planned growth that fosters intergenerational relationships and interactions that encourages residential business and cultural opportunity. This opportunity expands industry development while maintaining small town hospitality.

Infrastructure / Safety: We have a planned, progressive and improved infrastructure, dedicated to meeting the needs of the current and future community. This includes roads, sewers, water, progressive technological advancement, sidewalks, street lights, and curbed streets with storm drainage systems. Piedmont is a community with a responsive, well funded police and fire department that creates a place where families feel safe and secure and neighbors watch out for neighbors. Our 24 hour dispatch and paid fire department contributes to our low crime rate, health and well-being.

Schools / Education: The Piedmont School System is nationally recognized for its excellence in education. Our state of the art facilities are admired throughout the state. We offer opportunities in foreign language, music, art, drama, and more! The majority of our students receive athletic and/or academic scholarships to colleges and/or universities each year. We have our own career tech branch. One hundred percent of our students seek continuing education.
